It was our first race of the year yesterday on a very damp and cold Easter Monday at Castle Coombe. Mike was racing our MG Midget in the HRDC Grand Touring Greats for pre 66 GT cars under 1500cc.
In qualifying with an extremely wet track Mike took his time to steadily learn the track having only previously watched YouTube videos of Castle Coombe. This slow and steady approach paid off though with him qualifying 17th in a field of 27 with a time of 2.05.9 – a great effort in our view!
The race itself was again held in challenging conditions (water proof trousers and boots were a must for spectators!). After losing a few places at the start Mike fought through without too many moments (the final corner on the final lap aside!) to finish 17th. Again, a great effort considering he’d never been round the track before!
We’ve got some photos here (with videos to follow tomorrow):
Our next race will be at Brands Hatch in early May so check back soon for updates!
