Brands Hatch

After another quiet month Mike was out racing yesterday on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in his Ford Anglia 105E.

Qualifying proved to be tricky with intermittent showers meaning that the track wasn’t wet, but rather greasy. After spending Friday testing, Mike put his knowledge of the circuit to good use and managed to qualify 15th out of 26th and was the quickest of the five Anglias on show.

The race in the afternoon was incident packed with two red flags (neither of them involving us though!). In the first part of the race Mike got a poor start slipping down to 20th and managed to fight his way back to 16th when on lap 4 an Alfa Romeo’s engine let go dropping a lot of oil and the red flag was thrown.

At the re-start Mike made a marginally better start but still lost a couple of places. However after a lap or so he was really in the groove consistently lapping in the 1.00’s. He made his way up the field until a collision between a Mini and an Anglia meant the red flag came out again after 9 laps and that was the end of the race.

The final crash can be seen well from Mike’s onboard camera here:

So he ended up a career best of 11th, beating last year’s best result of 12th, so that’s a great result for us. Here’s also an onboard of Mike’s fastest lap of the day to celebrate:

Mike will be racing again at Silverstone next month, which we will update you on this week.
